In the final episode of the year I get vulnerable and share my thoughts about spirituality and specifically Christianity. Late last year an unexpected series of events led me down a rabbit hole of researching religious trauma, purity culture, the physiological harm that guilt and shame causes, the danger of anticipating an end-of-the-world scenario, and a final judgment.
Similar to going from raw veganism to raw primal, many people are going from new age straight to orthodox christianity. I believe that happened to me and many others. There are psychologists such as Dr Darrel Ray that work with people specifically to heal from religious trauma that was literally stressing them to death.
As I mentioned in the title, I still love Jesus, but I’m questioning the dogmatic views that people cling to and use to attack others that don’t believe the same things. Divide and conquer has always been the game to keep humanity enslaved. Religion is a great tool to use for that because people police each other and hold each other down and prevent healing and growth.
I no longer believe in original sin and that from our first breath we were born imperfect. In the show I talk about the book that I’m reading that gives an alternative take on the garden of eden Genesis story and what it was all about. I am not flawed and I feel no guilt for being alive and breathing.
